COVID-19 - FORTALEZA PROJECTS UPDATE
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil, we have had to change the way our Feeding Program works. At the start of the year, as in previous years, the children would come to Project Centre and be fed sitting next to each other on long tables and benches. However, since 23 March, when the coronavirus started to take hold in Brazil, we have been cooking the meals in the kitchen at our Project Centre and delivering to the children’s homes in containers. This way these poor children will still get their daily meal, but will eat it at home instead of at our Centre.
Education & Vocational Training Programs
I am sad to report that our Education Program has been put on hold since 23 March, as we felt there was no way for this to continue without putting the children and teachers at risk.
The planned Vocation Training Program for unemployed teenagers due to start later this year, has also been put on hold
Both these programs are being regularly reviewed as to when it will be considered safe for them to continue.
